Whilst most tabloids focus on pictures of celebrities wearing too few clothes on the beach, the celebrity chef Nigella Lawson has caused somewhat of a sensation in a top-to-toe ensemble.
Nigella wore an extremely unusual black, full length outfit which covered everything but her hands, feet and face, its resemblance to the burka prompting some gossip columnists to dub it the ‘burkini’.
It was first speculated that Nigella was obeying the religious codes of dress in the country she was visited, until it was revealed that she was on Bondi Beach in Sydney. Others claimed that the voluptuous chef was protecting her delicate pale skin from the sun. However, a fashion journalist from the Telegraph summed it up by saying:
“I would rather get laughed at for wearing a tent, than open up the papers the next day to find a long-lens shot of my pasty backside.”
